Alexander Toms is an image maker and book artist based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Exploring the unseen, Toms' work marries hidden histories with spiritual interventions. Toms' work requires specific places activated by his interactions to guide what he makes, often obsessively. By utilizing the imaging process as a ritual, Alexander Toms is able to mark what lies in a plane of existence beyond reality.
Toms is expected to graduate from the Indiana University Indianapolis Herron School of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in May 2024. With the pursuit of knowledge being a primary focus, he wishes to continue studies in pursuit of a Master of Fine Arts. Toms finds fulfillment in sharing knowledge and educating those invested in the arts, so he hopes to become an educator at the collegiate level following the completion of his degrees.
Alexander Toms has been active in the arts community in the greater Indianapolis area for a number of years, working as the editor of an independent zine company, as a fabricator in a framing shop, and most recently, as the intern of the Aurora PhotoCenter.
